“Flow with the Waves” is a song that people like to sing along with. It wrote itself one day when my guitar and I were out in the yard, reminiscing about beautiful, by-gone friendships.
My first “serious” recording project in 2015 was named after this song: “Flow” came to life under the patient guidance of local music school teacher Christian Ryba, who initiated me into the workings of recording software and hardware. His meticulous attention to detail and insistence on getting things just right matched my style and continue to influence and inspire my work. (Danke, Herr Lehrmeister!)
Here’s a quick glimpse back in time, a written exchange in 2015 with my blue-eyed friend Maggie Berry Riley (verse 2). I had sent her my rough draft of “Flow” and all its packaging by overseas mail, which is an exercise in patience and faith: packages I send from Germany to the U.S. can take anywhere from two weeks to six months to arrive. Thus the astonished sense of serendipity when my package and my email arrived simultaneously...
Back to 2021:
How nice it is to see that six years later, I’ve actually carried out some of these plans. I have more recording channels and a GREAT drummer. Also a lead guitarist who plays mandolin, cello, harmonica and spoons! We’re even starting to sing (and whistle) a few things in 3-part harmonies.
We give concerts in big, drafty medieval churches - turns out more people come than would fit in a tea-house! I’ve made some videos for YouTube, we’re working on a new CD.
Quietly, patiently, I’m continuing to step in my chosen direction.
